The Bishop delivered a message that was needed to be heard to the audience that needed to hear it the most at the perfect time. God was working through her with every spoken word. I'm guessing she was terrified inside knowing that there would be negative comments and future ramification coming. From my own experience when a Pastors sermon has made me uneasy it is because I'm on the wrong path and I need to make the appropriate changes. God wrote the message and she delivered it in a very eloquent manner that was thought provoking.
WWJD is one question. I have a second question regarding Bishop Budde' words on mercy and compassion (and thank you for writing on this). My question is What Will Democrats Do?
From AI, "Based on my(this is AI writing) review of public statements and media coverage, I cannot confidently list any specific number of elected officials who have publicly defended Bishop Marianne Budde's position on mercy regarding January 6th defendants. AI was unable to list ANY official.
What is so hard for our elected or appointed leaders in the public sector or civil society to defend someone speaking out for mercy and compassion.
Mercy and compassion...two characteristics that this President seems to never know or understand. You also prompted me to think about 'forgiving' those that voted for this President...because he is destroying our democracy..and now they act 'surprised'...
Great insights, Randy! How sad that "encouraging mercy and compassion" seem to be the last things on the minds of this administration! The whole country needs to take the Bishop's wise and thoughtful message to heart.
I’ve been thinking about “forgiveness” for a while; how do I forgive the people who voted for this man? Who sought the very cruelty he is inflicting on transgender people, on immigrants, even on federal employees? Today it came to me that healing must come first and by healing, the gospels mean restoring community, right relationship. Our division feeds the distrust and anxiety towards others. We created the “otherness;” we can heal it. With help.
Thank you, Randy. Spot on. It made me recall a time when Mother Teresa visited D.C. and scolded President Clinton, who was seated next to her, about abortion. Evangelicals had absolutely no problem with it. They view everything through the lens of their own politics first, especially their detest for the LGBTQ community.

Far from a stray thought, Randy.

Isn't that how Satan reacts when you quote the Gospel to him?
